Adoptions

Once the kittens and adult cats in BCC’s Foster Program have been socialized to humans and vetted, they are advertised for adoption on our Petfinder page.

Volunteers are needed to:

• Obtain information from foster homes about the kittens being fostered and create posts to advertise each kitten/cat on BCC’s Petfinder page.

• Review applications to adopt and contact applicants for additional information if needed.

• Contact applicants to let them know if they were approved to adopt and, for those approved, to schedule a virtual home visit.

• Respond to questions about BCC’s adoption process and about kittens/cats advertised for adoption.

• Assist in planning and conducting adoption events.

• Transport kittens to vet appointments and adoptive homes when deemed necessary.

Applying to Adopt

To be approved to adopt from BCC, you must:

• Be at least 21 years of age.

• Complete our online adoption application. Make sure you respond to each question completely, thoughtfully, and honestly.

• Respond to any questions that our review team has about your application.

• Participate in a home visit (currently conducted virtually) as a part of the interview process.

• Read, sign, and agree to our terms and conditions which include a commitment to return the cat to BCC if for ANY reason you become unable to keep the cat in your care.

• Pay the applicable adoption fee. Our standard adoption fees are:

◦ $150 for a kitten,

◦ $250 for 2 kittens, and

◦ $125 for an adult cat one year or older.

On occasion, we run adoption specials to facilitate the adoption of adult cats and, if our foster homes are full, to move kittens out and make room for new arrivals.

Some tips about adopting from BCC:

• Kittens are very playful and need a lot of attention. Most of the time kittens do best when they have a friend! Many of the kittens that BCC fosters become bonded pairs. We make every effort to adopt these kittens as pairs. For single kittens, we prefer to adopt them into homes that already have at least one cat.

• Out of consideration for the time and energy of our small adoptions team, we ask that you apply only when certain that you are ready and able to adopt a kitten. If you are unsure about the long-term commitment of adopting, consider starting with fostering.

• Fill out the Application to Adopt thoroughly. Forms with Incomplete answers may not be considered.
